Tardies and Check In/Out Procedures
TARDIES
When a student receives three (3) tardies, parents will be notified for a conference.
A. When a student receives six (6) tardies, parents will be notified for a conference.
B. When a student receives nine (9) tardies, the parents/student will be referred to the Supervisor of Child Welfare and Attendance. At this time, a disposition will be made by the superintendent or his designee for possible court action against parent and/or student or other disposition. If a hearing is required, the parents, student, principal, and Child Welfare Supervisor shall be present at the hearing
C. All late-arrival students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Students will be marked "absent" from school until a parent or guardian signs the student "IN" for the day.
Instruction begins at 8:00 a.m. Please have your child to school by 7:45 so that they are ready to begin at the 8:00 instruction bell. Doors close at 7:55 a.m. – walking in at the bell means they will be marked tardy. Students should be in the classroom for the 8:00 bell
CHECK-IN & CHECK-OUT PROCEDURES
Students checking into school at or after the 8:00 bell must be signed in at the front office by a parent/guardian. Students can check out for emergencies only: doctor visits, illness, or other allowable reasons. Parents must come to school and sign students out. Students should notify their teacher if they are ill and need to check out. The teachers will notify the office/nurse to call home. Student must be sent to the office to call for medication only. Emergency contacts listed on the family information sheet will be deemed acceptable to check a student out of school.
The automated system will make phone calls if your child is marked absent, tardy, or checked in and/or out. If your child is absent from school, please notify the school (337-923-0494) before 8:10 a.m. Parents/students should become familiar with the parish attendance/tardy policy found on the St. Mary Parish School website.
Excessive check-outs will add to absences and referral to the Supervisor of Child Welfare and Attendance.
No check-outs will be allowed after 2:40. This will allow for a routine and safe dismissal. If you need your child before 3:00, make sure to check them out before 2:40. We MUST receive WRITTEN notification of changes in transportation. Phone calls will not be accepted.
